Abstract

Order statistics play a main role in exploratory data analysis and non-parametric inference. Its study is included in secondary education and university, where difficulties in the computation and interpretation of these statistics have been described. The aim of this work was to present and analyse some didactic interactive resources that facilitate the understanding of order statistics to secondary school students. We first describe our framework, which consists in the ontosemiotic approach to mathematical knowledge and instruction, the role of technology in teaching and learning statistics and results of previous research on order statistics. After describing the method of selection and analysis of the sample, we present the detailed analysis of three of these resources, including its description, the identification of the mathematical objects required for working with this tools and possible difficulties of the students. It is complemented by the study of the different components of the resources' didactic suitability and a list of other similar resources.
