About the Journal
Focus and Scope
*Eptic Journal* (ISSN 1518-2487) is a journal published three times a year, affiliated with the Graduate Program in Communication and the Professional Graduate Program in Economics at the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS). It is edited by the Observatory of Economics and Communication (Obscom) at UFS. It is an international scientific journal that fosters critical dialogue between the field of Political Economy of Communication (PEC) and other academic disciplines; it engages directly in research and generates knowledge about social reality that can contribute to social change.
The target audience of *Eptic* consists of students, professors, and researchers specializing in Political Economy (and its intersections) and critical communication theory. The journal accepts original, previously unpublished articles and essays (i.e., works not published in national journals) authored by individuals holding at least a master's degree — subject to exceptions approved by the Editorial Board. It also accepts research reports and book reviews — which are open to master's students as well — written in Portuguese, Spanish, or English, provided they align with the journal's principles and editorial guidelines.
Peer Review Process
Submissions to *Eptic Journal* are first evaluated for formatting compliance with the submission guidelines and standards. Subsequently, the work undergoes a blind review process conducted by reviewers selected from the Editorial Board or by *ad hoc* reviewers. This evaluation assesses the article's alignment with the journal's scope, its content, theoretical relevance, quality, and contribution to the relevant theoretical field, as well as other criteria established by the Editorial Committee. Based on the evaluation form, the reviewer may APPROVE, REJECT, or SUGGEST CHANGES (in which case the author is required to resubmit the work incorporating the recommendations so it can be re-evaluated by the reviewer, who will then issue the final decision). In the event of a NEGATIVE REVIEW, the work is sent to a second reviewer and, if necessary (in the case of conflicting opinions), to a third. Once the work is finally APPROVED, its publication will follow the schedule organized by the Editorial Board.
