Abstract

Why, even though present in classic Marxist concepts, are emotions often neglected as a valid category of analysis for understanding social issues? This study discusses reasons for a distancing from emotion studies and points to a direction in the humanities that has emerged since the 1980s, discussing an "affective turn" in research. The goal is to contribute to the reflection in the field of Communication, particularly in the Political Economy of Communication (PEC), in an era when the analysis of social action and objects is led to not do without the critique of affects.
