Abstract

José Eduardo Cassiolato reflects on the current context, from the 2007-2008 crisis, through the COVID-19 pandemic, to the war in Ukraine. He points out that these crises overlap with a multidimensional chronic crisis, which intensifies social inequalities, low economic growth and financialization. Cassiolato examines Brazil's opportunities and challenges in a scenario marked by digitalization and the energy transition, highlighting the control of data by large digital corporations and its effects on the country. He also highlights the importance of local innovation systems as fundamental components for Brazil's economic and technological development.

Author Biography

Ricardo Lacerda de Melo, UFS

He is an associate professor at the Federal University of Sergipe, retired since December 2018. He is currently an economic advisor to Sergip's Secretary of State for the Civil House.
