Abstract

In a year full of ephemeris, including the 60th anniversary of TV Globo, we aim to reflect on television, a technology and cultural form that is central to the history of communications in Brazil and around the world. Although new issues associated with digital platforms have been gaining centre stage in academic discussions, television, whether due to its historical role, power relations or even the audience ratings it registers, continues to be a space for shaping a culture suited to capitalist demands, as well as for translating popular cultures and demands into the terms of the Cultural Industry, with resistance.
