Presentation of the Thematic Dossier Communication Policies in Argentina: conflicts, resistance, and democratic crisis

Abstract

This dossier is inscribed in the tradition of Latin American Political Economy of Communication (PEC), developed through dialogue and tension with previous critical currents such as Communication and Development, dependency theory, and cultural imperialism. Since the 1970s, it has incorporated contributions from the Frankfurt School, Latin American historical-structural thought, and Marxism, establishing a critique of functionalism and of the international communication order. Within this framework, studies on communication policies, like those presented here on Argentina, provide empirical evidence and critical analysis of how transformations of global and regional capitalism manifest in the organization and regulation of communication systems.
