Abstract
The publication of this issue of *Revista EPTIC*, dedicated to the debate on imperialism, information, and culture in the era of digitalization, holds special significance. Latin America is currently enduring imperialist aggression of immense magnitude. Every election—to cite just one example of an open social contest—serves as a pretext for imperialist attacks; meanwhile, mechanisms of social mediation, organized around a renewed global cultural system, provide the tools serving monopoly capital and imperialism. These mechanisms have been deployed with great efficiency to forge a far-right continental pole perfectly suited to the new project of domination—a fact that underscores the importance of the critique proposed by the Political Economy of Communication (PEC).
The organization of this dossier—led by Dr. Farooq Sulehria (Beaconhouse National University, Pakistan), Dr. Jonas Valente (Graduate Program in Communication at the Federal University of Ceará and the Higher Education Institute of Brasília), and Dr. Fabrício Zanghelini (postdoctoral researcher at the Professional Graduate Program in Economics at the Federal University of Sergipe)—was shaped by the challenges of the present moment. In recent months, Professor Farooq Sulehria—who also edits the Pakistani publication *Jeddojehad*—has faced persecution by the Pakistani government, with his family members and home targeted in an operation by the country's armed forces. This is an overt situation of repression that calls for our profound solidarity. In Brazil, we are facing an election marked by aggression from the United States—particularly via digital platforms—which have engaged in various forms of censorship to influence the Brazilian political contest.
