Abstract

The objective of the research is to analyze, from the perspective of Plato, how the mathematical knowledge is obtained, constituted and discovered from the concepts of World of Ideas, immortality of the soul and anamnesis. Specifically, such concepts will be described, examined and investigated from the dialogues Meno, Phaedo and The Republic (Books VI and VII) to, finally, discuss their possible pedagogical consequences. Combining a philological reading close to the primary sources with a detailed analytical philosophical analysis of the primary and secondary material, we will use the exegetical method in the analysis of the aforementioned Dialogues. The understanding of the problem regarding the construction of mathematical knowledge is relevant, in view of the didactic-methodological implications that arise from it. The present research proposes to offer pedagogical possibilities in this sense.
