Abstract

In this brief article will be considered comparatively the passages of the platonic dialogues Phaedo (Pl. Phd 60b1-5) and Philebus (Pl. Phlb 46a8-11) in which Socrates uses the common attitude of rubbeding the skin as a starting point for reflections on the interdependent relationship of pleasure and pain, mediated by the body. The two passages will be studied by lexicography, in the study of the Greek terms employed by the philosopher in comparison with the meaning of the translations in Portuguese used. This approach will serve to investigate the common nature of both sensations, contributing to Plato's teaching in the gestures and words of Socrates.
