This article deals with two epistemic axes, namely, the question of parrhesia in Foucault and the question of the master-disciple relationship in Stoicism. Therefore, we propose the problematization of the historical-philosophical dimensions that surround the relationship between master and disciple supported by the Greek concepts: self- knowledge (gnôthhi seauton) and self-care (epimeleisthai seauton). We show how the courage of truth emerges from this injunction, through the government of the other. This articulation launches us into a hermeneutics of the self, which allows us to reflect on parrhesiastic modes of our time.
