Abstract

The purpose of this article, which is part of a larger research project, is to explore the
relationship between complot, fear and dreams, with the movie The Manchurian Candidate (1962) and
its 2004 remake as the starting point for reflection. This is not a film review, but a theoretical reflection
based on the film. Thus, there is no pretension of exhausting the film analysis and even less ambition to
exhaust the discussion on the three theoretical axes in focus. On the contrary, it is a gesture of reading
against the grain that aims to shed some light on the interrelationship between this complex triad.
