Pierre Hadot has been, and still is, the subject of much discussion regarding his
theses on philosophy as a way of life. Thus, amidst agreements, criticisms, and reformulations,
the methodology established by the Frenchman stands in contemporary debate as a productive
exponent in various readings of ancient philosophy and even philosophy in general. However, we
consider it pertinent to make some observations about Hadot's method concerning the Manual,
since the Frenchman's reflections are used more frequently in academic and non-academic
analyses of ancient texts, especially Stoic ones. In this sense, the question guiding this brief
research is: how should an objective interpretation and re-actualization of the Epictetian breviary
be carried out through Hadot?
