Abstract

Within the Korean Wave, manhwas are one of the cultural products that are being taken to other countries, sometimes confused with Japanese Manga. They are graphic sequential narratives, with a hybrid language of text and image, with verifiable differences in visual metaphors and plots. The Korean Wave is a cultural phenomenon of the 20th century. XXI, which fits within a general framework of globalization, in which cultural artifacts have assumed an important
role for both the economy and society of a given country or region. This article presents aspects of the Korean Wave or Hallyu, which can be summarized in the expansion of multiple aspects of South Korean culture to the most diverse regions of the world. They present themselves as a source of reading and entertainment, especially for children and young people, due to their easy access, through smartphones, as well as updated topics of interest to youth, at a global level. It concludes that the phenomenon of reading indergoes profound changes, and requires studies in the cultural field, particularly those that opt for interdisciplinarity, which are necessary to absorb the changes that have been taking place both in human relations and in the production of knowledge.
