Abstract

This paper aims to construct an approach on the research theme developed in the Postgraduate Program in Religious Studies - UEPA (State University of Pará), focusing on the presentation of the topic and its theoretical reference, which contributed to the discussions about symbolism conflicts recurring in the power relationship within the Pentecostal religious field in the context of the "vigília da mata" (forest vigil) in the city of Belém, Pará, Brazil. The analysis was centered on a specific vigil in Belém. The article draws on thinkers like Max Weber and Pierre Bourdieu to provide a theoretical framework for analyzing power and symbolic power relations. Moreover, essential references were made to authors who address the theme of Pentecostalism, such as the historian Clayton Guerreira, who delved into understanding a Pentecostal vigil movement, aiming to investigate the conflict within the Pentecostal field concerning the "movimento do reteté" (reteté movement), which, for many Pentecostals, represents the most troubled expression of religious character within this group. In this essay, the studies of David Mesquiati on the performative reading of the Bible by Pentecostals, as well as the approaches to the religious experience in Pentecostalism developed by researchers like Emiliano Macedo, Emerson Silveira, and Robson de Paula, among others, were indispensable. Additionally, excerpts from interviews with participants of the "vigília da mata" were included to elucidate the issue of symbolic conflict within this field.
