APONTAMENTOS SOBRE O REINADO DE ALFONSO VIII:

UMA ANÁLISE DO PODER RÉGIO E DO PODER ARISTOCRÁTICO

Abstract

This article aims to list the strategies undertaken by Alfonso VIII, of Castile, in an attempt to promote political and social changes in his favor, that is, inserted in a troubled context the monarch needed support to cease internal conflicts and strengthen his reign. In this sense, we argue that a strategy of this Castilian monarch to strengthen his royal power was to invest in didactic works with political purposes. Therefore, we understand that negotiation speeches influenced by Alfonso VIII were assigned to strengthen royal power in these works. Thus, these would have the function of distributing characteristics aimed at the aristocracy, such as: Balance, Loyalty, Courtesy, Religious Generosity and Warrior Strength, in addition to spreading negotiation mechanisms based on territorial conquests, which would help in the reign of Alfonso VIII.
