DISTURBANCES OF THE FLESH
A HISTORY OF EMOTIONS FROM A MEDIEVAL PERSPECTIVE
Keywords:
Keywords: Medieval period; History of Emotions; Methodology.Abstract
Abstract: This article proposes a historiographical and conceptual analysis of academic works that discuss the emergence, methodological paradigms, and epistemological developments of the field. This approach is justified by the intention to map the central analytical categories of the History of Emotions and discuss their implications for the study of the medieval period, with a focus on etymological understanding. The work aims not only to describe the development of the field but also to point out methodological challenges faced by the History of Emotions, especially regarding the relationship between language, experience, and emotional representation in historical sources from the medieval period. A period in which the term “emotion” did not exist and the application of modern psychology is so distant it may be considered useless.
