Abstract

This article examines de-Christianization during the French Revolution as a break with the dominance of the Catholic Church and the rise of a civic religiosity. It analyzes measures such as the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, the confiscation of Church property, and the creation of secular cults of Reason and the Fatherland as efforts to replace Christianity with republican values. At the same time, it demonstrates how revolutionary politics reproduced religious practices, transforming itself into a form of civil religion. The Panthéon in Paris symbolizes this change, having been transformed from a church into a national mausoleum dedicated to great figures. The study concludes that de-Christianization did not eliminate the Sacred, but redefined it, contributing to the development of secularism and shaping modern states.
