FRONTEIRAS NA IDADE MÉDIA
REPENSANDO A TERRITORIALIDADE A PARTIR DA HISTÓRIA GLOBAL
Keywords:
medieval borders, global history, territorialityAbstract
this article offers a historiographical reflection on medieval territorial borders through the theoretical and methodological possibilities advanced by global history. The critique of the national paradigm and methodological internalism guides the analysis of forms of territoriality and power in the medieval period, taking the County of Flanders (1188–1215) as a case study. The article seeks to demonstrate the limits of applying modern categories to the medieval past and the potential of connected and comparative approaches. By articulating multiple scales of analysis and emphasizing personal bonds of subordination, the text highlights the fluidity and instability of the political formations of the time, challenging fixed cartographies and rigid notions of borders in favor of an interpretation more attuned to the historical dynamics of the period.
