In this work, we present two approaches to demonstrate the known result that square matrices of order greater than or equal to 2 with rank 1 are diagonalizable if and only if the sum of the main diagonal (trace) is non-zero. The first approach uses the criterion of the minimal polynomial, and the second approach uses the fact that hyperplanes in Rn are n-1-dimensional.
