This work aims to explore the concept of stability in the sense of Lyapunov in a didactic manner. We will address different types of stability, including unstable, stable, and asymptotically stable, and then present Lyapunov's Criterion, along with its formulation and detailed proof. We will apply this criterion to the equations governing the motion of a simple pendulum and a damped pendulum, highlighting the relationship between stability concepts and physical principles. Additionally, we will discuss an application of Lyapunov's Criterion to a class of semilinear second-order equations, focusing on the stability analysis of their solutions.
Keywords: Stability; Lyapunov Criterion; Pendulum Equation.
