PROPOSTA DE EDIÇÃO CRÍTICO-GENÉTICA DO CONTO “A ENCHENTE”, DE MANUEL DOS PASSOS DE OLIVEIRA TELLES

PROPOSAL FOR CRITICAL-GENETIC EDITION OF THE TALE “A ENCHENTE”, BY MANUEL DOS PASSOS DE OLIVEIRA TELLES

Resumo

RESUMO: Na produção do escritor Manuel dos Passos de Oliveira Telles (1859-1935), um dos maiores difusores da história cultural sergipana, destaca-se a obra Sergipenses, uma coletânea de 29 textos ficcionais e não ficcionais produzidos em diversas épocas sobre variados assuntos relacionados a Sergipe. Um desses textos, um conto intitulado “A enchente”, possui uma tradição textual composta por dois manuscritos autógrafos e duas edições impressas. O confronto desses testemunhos permite apontar diferenças linguísticas no texto da narrativa, como inserções, supressões, substituições e alterações de ordem. Desta forma, fundamentando-se nos pressupostos teórico-metodológicos da Filologia, em sua vertente de Crítica Textual e de Crítica Genética, este trabalho tem como objetivo geral apresentar uma proposta de edição crítico-genética desse conto. Como objetivos específicos propõe-se recuperar a gênese de “A enchente”, cotejar os testemunhos manuscritos e impressos com vistas a identificar e analisar as variantes textuais autorais e apresentar um texto crítico. O estudo filológico que se pretende apresentar é fundamental para evidenciar o processo de reescrita operado por Oliveira Telles, possibilitando compreender as alterações realizadas e, em última instância, a gênese de um de seus textos e o seu processo criativo, além de permitir preencher uma lacuna no campo dos estudos literários sobre o autor.

ABSTRACT: In the production of the writer Manuel dos Passos de Oliveira Telles (1859-1935), one of the greatest disseminators of Sergipe’s cultural history, Sergipenses stands out, a collection of 29 fictional and non-fictional texts produced at different times on various subjects related to Sergipe. One of these texts, a tale entitled “A enchente”, has a textual tradition composed of two autograph manuscripts and two printed editions. The comparison of these testimonies allows to point out linguistic in the text of the narrative, such as insertions, deletions, substitutions and changes in order. Thus, based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Philology, in its aspect of Textual Criticism and Genetic Criticism, this work has the general objective of presenting a proposal for a critical-genetic edition of this tale. As specific objectives it is proposed to recover the genesis of “A enchente”, to compare the manuscript and printed testimonies in order to identify and analyze the author’s textual variants and present a critical text. The philological study that we intend to present is fundamental to highlight the rewriting process operated by Oliveira Telles, making it possible to understand the changes made and, ultimately, the genesis of one of his texts and his creative process, besides allowing to fill a gap in the field of literary studies about the author.
