Abstract

This article Investigates the philosophical dimension of Maurice Maeterlinck’s symbolist theatre, taking Static Theatre as a privileged space for thinking about the emptying of the word and the displacement of dramatic action to the situation. Starting with The Blind (1890), silence and waiting are analyzed as aesthetic operators that Interrogate modern subjectivity and the human condition. In dialogue with Michel Foucault’s notion of Writing of the Self and Seneca’s Stoic ethics, theatre is understood as a practice of reflection and self-care, In which the scene does not represent the Individual, but exposes their relationship with the world. The research articulates these references to a contemporary experience of creation In audiodrama, Los Ciegos (2023), understood as a critical updating of Static Theatre, In which the word gives way to the situation, to waiting, and to listening. Through cartographic procedures, this article examines how staging with non-actors, people aged 60 or older, produces a reconfiguration of listening, voice, and presence, challenging the crisis of alterity In the context of cognitive capitalism. By revisiting Maeterlinck from a philosophical perspective, the article argues that symbolist theatre offers tools for thinking about contemporary life, affirming the stage as an ethical-aesthetic space for formation and shared sensitive experience.
