Women in Information Science
A bibliometric analysis of scientific production in Brazilian journals (2010–2025)

This article investigates female participation in scientific production within the field of Information Science in Brazil, focusing on gender differences in authorship and research themes between 2010 and 2025. Adopting an exploratory and descriptive approach, and combining qualitative and quantitative methods, a bibliometric analysis was conducted on 10 Brazilian journals rated as A1, A2, or A3, indexed in the BRAPCI database. This study examined over 6,800 publications and approximately 15,500 authors. The analysis reveals a female predominance in authorship, with women representing 58.53% of the total authors. In all journals, female participation was equal to or greater than 50%, with the RBBD journal standing out at 73.71% female authorship. Among the 15 most productive authors, 9 are women, indicating not only higher representation but also leadership in scientific productivity. A thematic analysis by gender shows that, although central keywords in the field appear in both groups, female authors tend to emphasize social, institutional, and information mediation themes, while male authors focus more on topics related to technology, innovation, and administration.
