Education in Ukraine in the war period: psychological features and consequences

The research outlines the effects of the war on the education system in Ukraine which are not only immediate but will also have long-term consequences. The aim of the study was to identify challenges faced by Ukrainian university students and teachers, analyze the impact of the war on their mental health and academic performance during the full-scale war beginning February 24, 2022. The research was carried out via Ukraine’s regional survey by using a convenient tool ‒ Google Forms, which provided quick feedback from respondents in the form of answers to questions. The approach was a quantitative, descriptive-correlational design conducted among 793 students and 318 lecturers. It has been found that most students experience post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and depression due to the war. The novelty of the research refers to creating a safe learning space, a favorable psychological environment and well-being in wartime conditions. The practical significance of the study focuses on using the proposed educational solutions to support University students, teachers, and the education system in Ukraine under martial law.
