Abstract

Objective: To develop and validate a video training course based on health literacy (HL) for caregivers of elderly people with Alzheimer's disease (AD). Methods: Six videos based on health literacy (LISA Caring) for caregivers of elderly people with AD were developed and validated. The steps of pre-production, production and post-production of videos were followed. The themes of the videos were healthy eating, food consistency, dysphagia, constipation and diarrhea. Each theme was covered with one video except for dysphagia, covered in 2 videos. The storyboards, the last stage of pre-production, had a script and image selection based on the LS principles. The storyboards were evaluated by seven expert judges. After this evaluation, the videos (production) were developed, which were evaluated by the target audience. Results: The storyboards comprised 266 scenes, distributed as follows: Healthy eating 30 scenes; Power consistency 57 scenes; Dysphagia 65 scenes; Constipation 48 scenes; and Diarrhea 66 scenes. The overall content validation index (IVC) of the 6 storyboards, by expert judges, was 0.99. The target audience evaluated the videos, and the percentage of caregivers who considered videos 1 to 6 adequate was, respectively, 95.84%, 96.53%, 99.30%, 99.30%, 99.30%,100.00%. No video was considered inappropriate and there was no suggestion of change, so this version is considered the final production (post-production) of the videos. Conclusion: The video training course for caregivers of elderly people with AD was approved by expert judges and target audience, and can be used by services that serve this kind of public.
