CHINESE MIGRATION DYNAMICS IN BRAZILLIAN NORTHEAST: INITIAL CONSIDERATIONS BY THE ANALYSIS OF CHINESE MIGRATION PROFILE IN PERNAMBUCO’S CITIES

Resumo

In recent years many studies have been conducted on China, mainly to identify the processes of its economic development. However, research aimed at analyzing the intense influx of Chinese immigrants to Brazil is still scarce. The article seeks to analyse the dynamism of Chinese immigration to the Northeast region, specifically to the state of Pernambuco during the years of 2016 to 2018, in order to identify the profile of these immigrants who settle in the state. To this end, the data collected were obtained in an individualised manner which provided a cross-analysis between the variables related to the entry of the immigrant and the sociodemographic profile. In a second scope of analysis, it was investigated what motivated their migration. It was found that one of the grounds that was most given was family reunion criteria. As far as the profile of these immigrants is concerned, they are mostly adults, male and single. They also work to a large extent in areas related to the commercial sector. These activities are benefited by the strategies adopted by the cooperation network, in which it contributes to new business openings and the recruitment of fellow countrymen to the region.
