Abstract

The article is an initial approach that discusses the idea of historiographical myth in the History of Food. Firstly, articles by historians Meneses, Carneiro (1997) and Santos (2005) were selected which carried out a historiographical analysis of the History of Food. A tendency was observed to affirm that the theme of food in historiography, previously restricted to non-historians, gained prominence with the authors of the Annales school in the 20th century. We then examined the first book of Fustel de Coulanges' "The Ancient City", which deals with food. The conclusion is that although Coulanges dealt with the subject of food, it was a marginalized work, and the field of food was only consolidated after debates in the Annales circle.
