Digital technology can contribute to the process of learning statistics and therefore, teachers need to reflect on what, how and why to teach certain concepts. In this context, this article aims to analyze the main trends and research themes in the use of digital technology in teaching statistics. To this end, it is presented a systematic mapping based on articles published from 1998 to 2022 in the International Conference on Teaching Statistics (ICOTS). The results reveal a focus on student learning, with segmentation of different levels of education, and a predominance of technological aspects of the tools used, but with little emphasis on the pedagogical use of these technologies. It is concluded that a more comprehensive pedagogical approach, permeated by digital technology, can be a way to update methods of teaching statistics. It is also noted that teacher training centered on a pedagogy which integrates digital technologies in teaching enables innovative approaches aligned with current demands, in order to promote the learning of statistical concepts by students.
