Abstract

This article aims to present an analysis of the functional values performed by the phonologically reduced form of the verb estar, having as corpus, a synchronous sample composed of tweets, written texts/comments on the social media network Twitter. From a functionalist perspective (Görski; Tavares, 2013), we analyzed the uses of the item tá to verify if they Indicate functional variability and point to a situation of change through grammaticalization. Through a quali-quantitative methodology (Cunha Lacerda, 2016), we found: (i) the item tá is used, as well as estar, with the functions of full/main verb, linking verb and auxiliary/supporting verb; (ii) the tá expands its uses by acting with discursive functions (crystallized expression and discursive marker); (iii) the usage frequency confirms the functional variability of the item tá and Indicates that the functions with the most abstract values are more recurrent. With the developed analysis, we hope to contribute to broadening the description studies regarding linguistic patterns that are fixed and regularized In effective language practices.
