ABSTRACT: This work aims to discuss the English language teaching in the Brazilian context through multimodality and the contribution of the textbook in this process of mediation. To do so, we use the contributions of Kress (2010), Kress and Bezemer (2008) to observe the semiotic landscape of texts, more specifically texts materialized in the textbooks. For discussion, we bring some considerations about the insertion of the textbook in the national context besides its semiotic landscape and the possibilities that the use of this tool brings to the development of language as social practices through the engagement in the different textual genres and different styles of communication.
