Abstract

The research consisted of mapping Brazilian women scientists to understand female representation in different fields of knowledge, recording evidence of these women's life stories, and discussing the role that women have played in the development of science in Brazil. The research was conducted by reading and analyzing news published in the Women Scientists section of Jornal da Ciência, an online publication, as well as reviewing literature on the presence of women in the scientific field. The time frame for data collection was from 2019 to 2023. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively based on categories (race, area of knowledge, and highlights). The aim was to understand and discuss the different trajectories of women in the world of science. The results showed that although there has been a significant evolution in female highlights in the Brazilian scientific field, challenges such as sexism and racism remain, especially in male-dominated areas such as engineering and the exact sciences. The research shows both the advances and the barriers that still need to be overcome.
