“RECIPES FOR PERENNIAL INSATISFACTION”: IDENTITY AND SEXUALITY IN ANGELA CARTER AND ALICE MUNRO

The fiction of both Angela Carter and Alice Munro can be read as widely aware of the importance of sexuality in the construction of identities and gender relations. While Munro’s fiction exposes these relationships in a style considered more realistic, Carter’s makes use of fantastic spaces to encompass the complexity of the theme. These authors create in their writings unique ways of representing women’s sexuality, offering new possibilities of seeing the subject outside of the restrictive representations commonly available in their time.
