Abstract

The Philosophy in basic education is a discipline alternating between elective and mandatory, with a short workload and absence of teachers with a degree in the area. Between 2008 and 2020, the subject of Philosophy was mandatory for all grades of high school, with important changes for school management in the face of the reform of this level of education. In view of this educational context, the manuscript aims to present the legal and academic foundations for the definitive implementation of Philosophy in high school. To support the guidelines of the high school curriculum, the curricular parameters and contents proposed for Philosophy in the State of São Paulo are presented, with examples from the Paula Souza Center and the State Department of Education. With the reform of high school, the existence of Philosophy in the curriculum is discussed in the face of the creation of training itineraries in the area of Human Sciences that address philosophical contents. The existence of Philosophy in high school needs to be defended by the legal denomination of the discipline maintained as mandatory and teacher training in favor of the construction of citizenship of young people.
