Abstract

When Bayle resorts to experience, it is precisely to show how disastrous the practical effects of pagan and Christian idolatries have been throughout history, since in this context the facts always demonstrate this. Thus, with the concept of experience appearing from his first works to his final writings, the French philosopher understands that, by examining history critically, it is possible and legitimate to note how much idolatrous cults throughout time have disseminated dissimulation, vices, the acquisition of dubious privileges, self-interest, superstition and manipulation over time.
