White Supremacism Under the Cinema Optics: A compared analysis of Imperium and Blackkklansman
Abstract
This article aims to analyze how American movies have portrayed the activities of white supremacism in the United States. In recent years, events such as the Charlottesville incidents (2017) and the murder of George Floyd (2020) have opened up the moment of racial tensions experienced in the USA, a phenomenon that has become a point of concern in the present time. In this scenario, the American cinema, due to all its relevance, has become an important vehicle for reflection and denunciation, making productions of this type interpreted as testimonies of its time, making them an important source for the historians of the present time. In this article, we selected the films Imperium (2016) and Blackkklansman (2018) so that, based on a comparison between the two, we carry out a reflection and analysis on how and how these productions present and explore the theme here chosen.
