I'm a historian, so I exist

Abstract

This article is the result of discussions in the discipline “History of the Present Time”, from the Postgraduate Program in Comparative History / UFRJ. Bearing in mind the purpose, the “being a historian”, and the guidelines of the professor in charge of the subject in question, I will develop a text that discusses: how individual history (in this case mine), raises questions about the historiographic practice of present tense; and the overlapping of the role of the historian and the individual, going through the Cartesian maxim (Cogito, ergo sum). In other words, does the historian exercise his function full time?
