Law, power and violence in Árido Movie

Abstract

This article discusses the relationship among Law, power and violence,
demonstrating, from the film Árido Movie, how problems in the Brazilian Northeast are
connected with the so-called crisis of state legitimacy. Also addressed are the intertextualities
that the film maintains with others and their connection with the question of legitimacy.
The dialectical method is used, examining the films under the prism of legal pragmatics.
