Abstract

The article analyzes aspects of the measures taken by the Brazilian military in the face of the submarine attack suffered by national vessels in the northeast of the country, in August 1942. After this attack, Brazil declared war on the Axis and officially entered The Second War on the side of the Allies and with the commitment to send troops to the theater of battle. Our ongoing research analyzes the Military Police Inquiry resulting from the attacks, identifying and studying the main measures taken by the authorities in the face of the crisis. We also observed the possible motivations and justifications of the military for the choices made in coping with the difficulties and uncertainties of the immediate post-aggression.
