The use of economic arguments in the justifications of authoritarianism legitimation:
notes on the coup of 64
Abstract
Discourses can be used strategically with a concealment of real interests from the speaker. I approach this process from the perspective of the Communicative Action Theory in conjunction with the theory of language distortions and the incidence of cynicism on the economic discourses used in the pre-1964 coup. The hypothesis is that discourses of a technical-economic nature were used to justify and legitimize the establishment of the military in government. I conclude that economic discourse was an important ally of authoritarian narrative at the time.
