The Brazilian private sector LGBTI agenda
a response to the pressures of social movements in the new consumption and market relations
Abstract
There are many Brazilian companies that have been carrying out initiatives aimed at the human rights of the LGBTI community (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and intersex people). This article, therefore, aims to highlight the role of social movements [and civil society] as inducers of human rights transformations for the LGBTI community, which go beyond the public sphere (State) and have a direct catalyst impact on corporate practices and policies that meet the demands of sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, and sex characteristics. For this, we will analyze (i) interrelations among private sector, human rights, and social movements, and (ii) companies that have met the social demands of the LGBTI community.
