Abstract

As políticas de ação afirmativa implantadas há mais de dez anos em muitas universidades brasileiras continuam a desafiar o seu principal objetivo: a inclusão e a permanência de estudantes das camadas pobres e dos negros. Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar alguns aspectos do sistema de cotas na UEL, após dez anos da sua implantação. Foram utilizados os dados quantitativos disponíveis nas Pró-Reitorias:de Planejamento–PROPLAN; de Graduação – PROGRAD; e da Coordenadoria de Processos Seletivos-COPS da UEL. Os resultados mostram que as cotas possibilitaram maior ingresso dos estudantes oriundos das escolas públicas,
porém o número de negros ficou abaixo das expectativas, refletindo as dificuldades da efetiva inserção da população negra na educação superior. Outro problema enfrentado pela universidade é o aumento da demanda de assistência estudantil e a falta de recursos para responder e fetivamente às necessidades.
