O século XIX e a modernidade: possíveis implicações na paisagem urbana

Abstract

Este artigo analisa como a mudanca paradigmatica ocorrida ao longo do século XIX parece ter afetado a paisagem edificada e os padrões de assentamento das cida­des brasileiras. Nesse período pai­rava o discurso rumo a modernidade. Esta nova mentali­dade, laica, que veio romper a re­lação Estado-Igreja, parece ter sido responsável pelo desmantelamento da estrutura colonial, originando uma nova configuração espacial, com cidades litorâneas, voltadas para Europa, edificadas sobre o forte pretexto de abertura dos por­tos.
