O pensamento político de José de Alencar

O artigo pretende definir o traço característico do pensamento político de José de Alencar como acomodação de diferentes tendências teóricas numa visão de totalidade do movimento social no Brasil do século XIX. Como resposta as mudanças sociais, o autor construiu um modelo de modernização conservadora que preconizava a conjugação dos tópicos avançados do liberalismo e da democracia com um culturalismo de extração historicista que singularizava o nacional e definia o ritmo adequado as reformas políticas.
