Abstract

O artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre ações afirmativas, em especial o sistema de cotas adotado para a seleção de estudantes por diversas universidades brasileiras. O texto está dividido em três momentos: (I) apresenta perspectivas que negam a existência de injustiça racial no Brasil, desconstruindo-as; (II) expõe objetivos e críticas a política de cotas, utilizando como exemplo o modelo implantado pela UnB; (III) analisa as críticas ao modelo, tendo como foco o princípio da igualdade, avaliando possíveis resultados para a aludida política. Por fim, conclui que a política de cotas raciais constitui ação afirmativa que visa, ao reconhecer a existência de discriminação diante dos negros no Brasil, efetivar a igualdade material, corrigindo injustiças sócio-econômicas e culturais.
