Abstract

This article analyses the elements that form general Portuguese dictionaries available to users on an online platform. Therefore, this paper aims to present the typology and composition of the dictionaries, as well as their access structures and the micro and macrostructural characteristics of the analyzed dictionaries. In addition, this article aims to indicate the macrostructural and microstructural components of the analyzed dictionaries. In order to achieve the proposed goals, eight general online dictionaries of Portuguese were studied from the point of view of Rey (1977), Welker (2004), Svensén (2009), Selistre (2010) and Polguère (2018). The results obtained show that, with regard to the macrostructure of these dictionaries, the chosen access structure is the Direct Search and the linguistic units unanimously listed by the dictionaries are simple lexical items, compounds, contracted forms and abbreviations. With regard to the microstructure, the only elements that are part of an entry in all the analyzed dictionaries are word classes, grammatical information, definitions / meanings. Regarding to the type of microstructure and the way phraseological information is presented in the entry, there was no consensus and the dictionaries varied in integrated, non-integrated and semi integrated microstructure. Finally, it was concluded that mediostructural elements such as cross-references and use of links, facilitated by a virtual environment, configure a prominent tool in the general online dictionaries of Portuguese.
