Abstract

This article analyzes the short story “A moça tecelã” by Marina Colasanti, aiming to explore how the narrative fosters critical reflection on the female role through a counterfactual construction that transcends the plot and evokes social and philosophical discussions on autonomy, identity, and gender roles. Using an analytical and theoretical approach, based on theorists such as Lukács (1961), Bauman (2001), Bourdieu (2002), Boyd (2009), and Sanford & Emmott (2012), the study connects concepts from Literature and Sociology. The methodology Includes a detailed textual analysis focusing on the narrative construction and the metaphors of the loom and weaving, which symbolize both creative autonomy and patriarchal constraints. Moreover, the concept of counterfactual narratives is employed to Investigate alternative choices In the protagonist’s journey and encourage critical reflection on prevailing social values. The analysis reveals that the short story transcends literary aesthetics by offering reflections on solitude, Independence, and the challenges faced by women In traditional contexts. It concludes that “A moça tecelã” serves as a rich and multifaceted metaphor, articulating contemporary discussions on female emancipation and social transformation.
