Abstract

Considering the importance of developing reading habits In the school environment, especially to strengthen/intensify activities centered on literary reading, this article presents an excerpt of a work proposal, which defines literature as the scope, enabling the reader to participate In the analysis and study of short stories, making connections between the texts and their social life. As theoretical support, the contributions of Candido (2011), Todorov (2009), Barthes (2019), and Gotlib (2004), among others, are highlighted, who understand literature as a potential shaper of the Individual. Thus, we selected the literary tales “The Weaver Girl” by Marina Colasanti and “Christmas on the Boat” by Lygia Fagundes Telles, with the aim of contributing to pedagogical practices that lead students to expand their cultural repertoire and recognize the power of literature by analyzing and debating the texts In Portuguese language classes In the final years of elementary school. To this end, the methodology used is the work with didactic sequences, allowing students to implement different reading and writing activities through the production of literary reviews. Our Intention is for this article to become a topic of discussion about the role of literature In the critical, human, and civic formation of our students.
