Abstract

Research on teaching, learning, and philosophical training has been systematically developed since the late 1990s. Over the course of these 30 years, the field of  Philosophy Teaching has become a subject of research, being examined – sometimes, occasionally, sometimes in a more systematic way. This paper aims to present two historical moments in which the field of Philosophy Teaching was the subject of problematization, recovering the political, educational, and academical events that made the debate possible. Initially, the debate centered on the need to foster an academic culture around the Philosophy Teaching, cultivating the creation of a field of knowledge. In the second moment, the critical examination of the field of Philosophy Teaching is associated with the pursuit of philosophical citizenship, a political and academic movement whose purpose is to discuss the specific aspects of the researches in the area, the institutionalization of philosophy teaching as a research area in graduate programs and its recognition as an autonomous subfield within research funding agencies.

Keywords: Philosophy Teaching; Academic Culture; Field of knowledge; Problematization; Philosophical citizenship.
