Abstract

This article begins with the premise that the question of the teaching of philosophy refers not only to teachers’ classroom practices, but also to the institutional conditions that make such teaching possible. Furthermore, if we understand that the teaching of philosophy can be treated as a philosophical issue, then these questions also require a philosophical perspective. Under this premise, it focuses on elucidating the institutional conditions of possibility for the teaching of philosophy in Ibero-America. Based on reports compiled in countries across the region, this section addresses issues related to the subject of philosophy in school curricula, educational materials, and the educational system itself. The thesis holds that the task of philosophy consists, first, in identifying the historical institutional structures or configurations that serve as the conditions of possibility for teaching; second, in clarifying the meanings implied therein; and third, in proposing structures that preserve the philosophical meanings underlying philosophy and its teaching.
