The article proposes a unified conceptualization of the loving feeling around the ideal type of unconditionality. The argument proceeds in three stages. First, the broad features of unconditionality, inseparably subjective and institutionalized, are delineated. Secondly, the article shows how the ideal type of unconditionality allows to account, contrary to what is often stated, for a very varied set of love experiences. Finally, the article analyses some of the ethical challenges that result from the characterization of love as unconditionality.
